Dimapur, Jul. 10. A Seminar on the theme ''Raimundo Panikkar: Dailogue as a Way of Life,'' was organized by the Department of Philosphy, at Salesian College of Higher Edcuation, Dimapur. The Chief speaker and moderator for the occasion was Fr. George Panthanmackel, MSMFS, principal of Suvidya College, Bangalore.
While Bro. Clarence, one of the lecturers of the college, acquainted the participants on the life and works of the world -renowned author, Fr. George, presented a well-researched paper on the theme itself, on which discussions were held later.

There are different kinds of dialogues, but the as Dr. George pointed out, Panikkar would speak of a dialogical-dialogue as opposed to dialectical dialogue. Dialectics is the optimism of reason; whereas dialogue is the optimism of the heart.

In dialogue we have to see the other person or group, not as an extrinsic aid, but as the indispensable element in our search for truth. In Dialogue 'solution to the problem' is not the primordial element, but understanding each other is the focus. Fanaticism and fundamentalism have no place in dialogue. To quote Panikkar's own words, ''Perhaps, before sitting down to the tables, we ought to ''pray'' - invoke something higher, which unites us - thereby acknowledging some transcendent which precisely makes us equally worthy, and which will enable us to find the right language for each case.''

The discussions showed that the theme of the seminar seemed very appropriate and pertinent for the state of Nagaland, where reconciliation and talks between the GOI and the militant groups are going on.
