Dimapur, Feb. 22. Dn. Surjit Joseph Kujur SDB, was ordained a priest of God by Rt. Rev. Joseph Aind SDB, DD, Bishop of Dibrugarh, at Lacit Gaon, on 20 February, in the presence of 56 priests, 40 Sisters belonging to seven different congregations, 20 Brothers, and around 3000 faithful. Fr. James Poonthuruthil, Salesian Provincial, Fr. Jose Palely, Provincial Economer, and almost 40 Salesians joined the impressive, yet meaningful celebration.
''Vocation is a gift given to all; however, God calls some to be his close collaborators in spreading his kingdom and therefore a priest is called to serve all peoples'' said Bishop Joseph Aind, during the homily.
The Bishop appreciated the generosity of the parents and family members of the ordinandi, while also calling upon the faithful to be good and God fearing parents so as to nurture vocations in the families. He reminded the newly ordained about his duties as a priest and exhorted him to be faithful.
It was indeed, a day of celebration and a day of thanksgiving for the Parish of Uriamghat, in the diocese of Dibrugarh and more especially for the little village of Lacit Gaon and particularly the Catholic community of 150 families, from where, Dn. Surjit hails. The parish has already a number of priests, and religious and among them two are Salesians.
