Workshop on Financial Management for Administrators held

Dimapur, Feb. 19. The Annual Meeting cum Training of the Administrators, held on 19 February, at Don Bosco Provincial House, Dimapur, discussed several pertinent issues regarding financial management like FCRA, Income Tax, Tally etc. Fr. Jose Palely, Provincial Economer and the Chief Organizer of the meeting welcomed the resource persons and the 38 participants from the various institutions of the province.
Speaking on the functioning and services rendered by the Banks, particularly the Federal Bank, Mr. K.S. Hari Kumar, DGM, Federal Bank Regional Office, Kolkata, said that ''each bank is a financial supermarket today.'' He pointed out the new developments and the facilities offered by this sector. He informed the participants that the Federal Bank, with its headquarters at Aluva in Kerala, has over 740 branches all over the country, with 13 regional offices. Emphasizing the growth of the sector he said that, banks have come to the doorsteps of the individual bankers with Core Banking system, Net banking, mobile banking, ATM etc. However, what carries forward the enterprise are transparency, professionalism and accountability, he noted.
In the second session, Mr. Sudipta Dutta, a Tally software engineer from Kolkata, from the Tally Corporation briefed the participants on TALLY ERP 9, which is in the process of incorporating the Salesian Congregational requirements in the country and abroad.
Rev. Fr. O.K.N. Arokiadoss, Chartered Accountant, in his input session, dealt with Foreign Contribution Regulation Bill 2006, as well as the intricacies of the Income Tax for a Registered Society. He specially brought to light the changes in the new ruling of the FCRA Bill 2006 and its implications on the charitable institutions.
During his interactive session with the participants, Fr. Jose Palely, the Provincial Economer, dealt with financial matters like, accounts, projects, contributions, scholarships etc. He also briefed the participants on the logistics of the visit of Don Bosco's Relic to the Province.
Fr. James Poonthuruthil, Provincial, in his concluding talk appreciated the selfless service rendered by the administrators, at the same time exhorted them to be good stewards who are responsible, large hearted, motherly and understanding. He stressed on being transparent at the same time professional. Fr. James, reminded the participants about the directives given by the Province Directory as well the recommendations given during the Extraordinary visitation by Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, Regional for South Asia on financial management. The meeting concluded with the Lectio Divina and Scrutinium Paupertatis.
