RRC Organises Blood Donation in DBCMaram By Sr. Arpita SMMIDimapur, Feb. 12. DBCMaram 11 Feb 2011 ( www.dbcmaram.org ): One day Awareness Campaign on Voluntary Blood Donation as well as Blood Donation Camp was conducted in the Human Resource Centre (HRC) Hall of Don Bosco College, Maram, on 11February 2011. Don Bosco College,Maram (DBCMaram) NSS and the RRC volunteers worked hard to make the plan a reality. It was organised by the Association of Voluntary Blood Donors, Manipur, Dept. of IHBT, RIMS and supported by the Manipur State AIDS Control Society and State Blood Transfusion Council, Imphal.
The programme was attended by over 250 students of the college. A fourteen member team comprising of doctors, nurses and technicians from RIMS managed the day's programme. Rev. Fr. Benny James ,the principal of the Don Bosco College, Maram, in his welcome speech he applauded the team for their commendable service to the state while warmly welcoming them to the family. He also pointed out that the campaign was the first of its kind in the history of the college. A few representatives of the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) members of the college presented a special number with the theme song befitting of the day's event.
The second part of the programme was the technical session during which three eminent medical experts from the team brought home to the audience the what, how and why of Blood Donation through the power point presentation. Mr.Pradeep Saikia, the secretary AVBD, Manipur, briefed on 'Basic Blood Science' and general information about Blood Donation. Dr. L. Tomcha Khuman, President, AVBD, Manipur through his eloquent and powerful speech made known to the participants the significance or health benefits of blood donation. Blood bank and its functions, another important topic was dealt with Dr. Y. Bijoykumar Singh, CMO, BT & IH, RIMS. Before the end of the session, Dr. Tomcha once again took the floor and clarified all the queries made by many smart participants. Finally, Sr. Arpita SMMI, the Red Ribbon Club Programme Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks.
It was indeed an exciting experience for all the participants and even those who were sceptical about blood donation went home enlightened and well informed. Here's what a donor who made her maiden donation had to say: ''Indeed I have a wonderful feeling of saving someone's life. I know one day it will go to a needy person. Given a chance, I'd donate again. Live and Let Live.'' There were 115 blood donors who donated their blood. It was a grand success. The entire team expressed their appreciation to the college for the smooth and fine functioning of the camp.
