Chennai, Jun. 7. Don Bosco Relief Services (DBRS)- SURABI, in its fight against the spread of the deadly virus, COVID-19, has initiated several measures. The major hold-up being the misinformation among people regarding the jab against the virus, DBRS has begun an awareness campaign. Another initiative is the care centre with oxygen facilities. The relief packages include dry ration and medical kits distributed to the poor.
COVID 19 Vaccine Awareness in rural Villages of Tamil Nadu

DBRS-SURABI has initiated the COVID 19 Vaccination Awareness Campaign in 11 Northern Districts of Tamil Nadu in collaboration with 50 Salesian communities. Many people stay put from taking the vaccine due to misinformation on vaccination and its effects. Hence, DBRS has planned to distribute one lakh vaccination awareness flyers to the rural population. It has plans to distribute 12,000 masks as well.

COVID-19 Care Centre

DBRS-SURABI has launched a COVID Care Centre at Don Bosco Primary & Higher Secondary School, Perambur, specifically to serve the poor urban slum patients with COVID. The centre has 75 beds which are oxygenated. The facilities are coordinated by Dr Mahesh MBBS, with a team of Doctors (8) and Nurses (22). According to the State Health Department protocol, patients with an oxygen saturation level (SpO2) 90-94 should be admitted to a primary healthcare centre or COVID 19 Care Centre. If the saturation level falls below 90, patients should be shifted to medical college hospitals or government hospitals or dedicated Covid-19 hospitals. The Don Bosco centre caters to people of Vyasarpadi and Perambur slum area.

Distribution of Dry Ration Kits and Medical Kits

With the curbs imposed by the State Government to arrest the spread of the virus, the daily wagers and migrant labourers are faced with the twin burden of surviving against deadly COVID-19 and hunger. To help ease the situation, DBRS-SURABI with Salesian communities have distributed 1085 dry ration kits and medical kits with a thermometer, steam inhaler, multivitamin tablets and nutritious powder.
