Don Bosco Relic Emerges from News Blackout, Comes to Shillong

By C. M. Paul
Chennai, Jun. 4. En route from Guwahati to Shillong Don Bosco Relic passed through districts of Meghalaya where only mosquito nets are the most sought after thing and not internet. Hence, the news black out on the pilgrimage as the reporters travelling with the relic were not able to post news until they reached Shillong
The casket arrived at St. Peter's Church Nongstoin on Friday, 3r June and was welcomed by hundreds of faithful.  The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, along with priests, nuns and students received the casket and it was followed by a procession from Nonbah to Pyndengrei.

Dr. Sngi Lyngdoh SDB presided over the solemn Eucharist and said, ''Relics do not contain magical powers, but symbolize how God works through the Saint even after his death, relics help to inspire individuals to pray to God through the intercession of the Saints to give them the grace to live a holy life.'

The relics arrived Shillong on a four day visit Sturday afternoon, touching first the Salesian novitiate at Upper Shillong at about 5 PM on June 4. After a brief programme of over 10 minutes, it proceeded to the Cathedral Church of Mary Help of Christians in a motorcade escorted by the police and a team of eleven Shillong Don Bosco Past Pupils on flag borne motor bikes.

As the motorcade entered the Cathedral Church grounds from the Don Bosco Road, the casket containing the life-size statue and the relic it bears was accorded a guard of honour by flag waving members of the Cathedral Church, priests and members of the Salesian family.

The programme at the Cathedral Church includes the celebration of the holy Eucharist by Archbishop Dominic Jala and a large number of priests.

At about 8 PM on Saturday, a night vigil would be observed at the St. Margaret Convent Hall of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians at Upland Road, Laitumkhrah.

Sunday highlight is 10 am youth mass to be held at the Don Bosco Technical School ground presided over by Salesian Archbishop Dominic Jala.

The Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma is scheduled to attend the public reception at St. Anthony's Higher Secondary School, Sunday 5th June.  The programme would be telecast live by JJs Cable Network from 1.30 pm onwards.
