Learning the Grammar of Media

By Michael Makri sdb
Shillong, Jan. 7. Shillong: A course on Social Media and Communication was held for the novices of Sunnyside from 2nd - 4th January, 2019. It was professionally animated by Father Gervasius Nongkseh sdb, the vice-principle of St. Anthony's College, Shillong. The programme was conducted from 9 am to 11.50 am on all the three days.
Before dealing with the topic on 'Social Communication' Father Gervasius highlighted some of the issues and challenges that society is facing at the moment for instance, 'a world enveloped by Media'. At the very outset of his session the animator through his illustrating article 'I Have a Dream,' said that he has a dream that every Salesian should be 'Media Literate,' 'knowing the grammar of media', pro-media and that each confrere should consider media as a gift of God. The three days programme went on fabulously with full participation from the novices who took part actively by asking queries and at the same time they listened attentively to the explanations. At the end of the three days programme the novices were able to enhance their knowledge and understanding regarding the Media.
Finally, on the last day of the programme, as a token of love and gratitude, the novices gathered around Father Gevasius Nongkseh to thank him with songs, choir pieces and words of gratitude and appreciation.
