Platinum Jubilee Seminar in Shillong calls for Deepening of Faith and Social Involvement By Bivan MukhimShillong, Aug. 27. As part of the Platinum Jubilee Year of Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai, the college organised a one day seminar on the 25th August 2012 on the theme: ''Deepening the Faith and Involvement in the Society.'' The seminar was to help Church leaders to involve themselves in the activities of the Church.
The Rector of Sacred Heart Theological College, Rev Fr. Jose Vettath Sdb in his inaugural speech spoke of the importance of the Laity in taking part in the activities of the Church for spreading God's kingdom. He welcomed the participants and thanked them for encouraging and supporting the activities of the college. Fr. Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh Sdb, led the participants into prayer.
Fr. Barnes Mawrie in his animation talk cited examples of Church leaders who were instrumental in bringing the message of God to the Christian faithful. ''They were the pillars in building God's kingdom on earth,'' Fr. Barnes said. He spoke on the role of the laity in building a just society and he encouraged the participants to continue working for the spread of God's kingdom through social upliftment.
Fr. Edmund Gomes, the Parish Priest of Nongthymmai enlightened the participants with regard to the Church's documents and in particular the Social Teachings of the Church. Fr. Thomas Macheril spoke on the role of the laity in Parish Pastoral Council. He clarified on the threefold mission of Christ and the Church. ''Jesus Christ has entrusted to all the threefold mission of being a teacher, pastor and ruler'', he said.
The other resource persons who spoke at the seminar were Fr. John Madur, the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Shillong, and Fr. Jose Varickaserril, Asst. Parish Priest of Mawlai. The seminar was graced by the presence of Mr. A. L Hek, minister for IT and Water Resources. Most Rev. Archbishop Dominic Jala of Shillong concluded the seminar with the celebration of the Holy Mass.
