Leadership training for Salesians at Don Bosco, Shillong By Brother Shiningstar DkharShillong, Oct. 10. Shillong: The practical trainees of the Province of Shillong came together for an animation programme conducted on October 4 - 6 2019 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Mawlai, Shillong. The programme began with a Recollection preached by Father Tom Kartik SDB. The preacher urged the brothers to become 'men of prayer.' A man of prayer, he claimed, is a person in communion with God.
The following two days witnessed series of sessions. Father L.B Anthony took a session on the topic, 'Salesian Assistance and Spiritual Direction'. He reminded the brothers of the integral role that Salesian Assistance occupies in Don Bosco's system of education. He exhorted them to be regular for Spiritual Direction and to have a Personal plan of Salesian life.
In the second session, Father Gedwin Warbah exhorted the young Salesians to understand their role in Evangelization. He asked them to insert Gospel proclamation in whatever ministry they are engaged in and that their
primary duty as religious is to make known Christ to others.
Father John Zosiama, the Vice Provincial, took a session on Salesian Youth Ministry. He urged the participants to keep in mind the four dimensions of our Salesian youth ministry. He said that Salesians should create, in their own setting, a home, a school, a Church and a playground for the young people. In the evening of the second day, Father Michael Makri took a session on the 'Guidelines to use Social
Media'. He stressed on the importance of becoming 'content contributors' and not mere consumers in the virtual world. Father also instructed the brothers how to write the reports and shared some useful Guidelines.
The young Salesians had a moment of sharing during the programme. During the sharing, each one shared his experiences that he had in his own community. The Vice-Provincial helped them to understand some of the challenges they encounter in their mission. Father Paul Olphindro Lyngkot, the Provincial, addressed the brothers during the good night. He urged them to have love and do everything with love. He also suggested to them to become bridges in their own community and that they should constantly pray for their community.
The meeting was concluded with an outing to Rural Resource and Training Centre (RRTC) Umran along with the Vice-Provincial. The community of RRTC welcomed them with open heart and Father K.K. Joseph, the Rector of RRTC briefed them about various activities and programmes organized in the centre. It was very informative and enriching experience for all.
