Shillong, Sep. 18. Shillong: Shillong Province Don Bosco Institution's Father Hopewel Elias Higher Secondary School defeated Krida Shiksha Prothistan of Bangladesh 1-0 to win the prestigious International Subroto Cup 2019 on its Diamond Jubilee Year in the U-17 category in the final match played on the 17th September at the Ambedkar stadium in Delhi.
The match was witnessed by Meghalaya's Sports and Youth Affairs minister Shri. Banteidor and the School Principal Father Sebastian Palati together with thousands of students cheering their favourite Shillong boys for their fair play. The match was a tough competition since Krida Shiksha Prothistan of Bangladesh were champions in the last year edition. But in the 32nd minute, Sangti Jani scored the solitary goal to bring the cup home. While the Bangaladeshis retaliated but brilliant stop from the Shillong goalkeeper, Wanteilang Malngiang, denied them.

The first half started with both teams looking for an early breakthrough. Don Bosco Hopewel Elias School moved ahead with a purpose, while the Bangladeshis relied on individual skills during their attacks. The Shillong boys looked threatening but in the 15th minute an attack from the left flank drew a rash tackle from Hasibul Islam of Bangladesh as he received the first yellow card of the match. Subsequently because of the faults, the referee sent out two players of Bangladesh with red cards and by the 90th minute, the Shillong boys were on their toes to lift the cup.

The champions were awarded with medals and a cash award of 4 Lakhs rupees besides they were also awarded with the Best Goalkeeper to Wanteilang Malngiang, Best Player to Sangti Janai and the Best Coach to Bobby L Nongbet, who trained the team to becoming national heroes.
