Shillong: Don Bosco Youth Centre Shillong has been honoured with an International Education Icon Award 2019 at the Taj Vivanta Hotel, New Delhi on 24th August 2019 as 'Top Ten Favourite School/Institution Award 2019' category for the huge number of enrollment in the past years.
Only 20 Schools out of 10,000 schools from 20 different countries were honoured at this prestigious event. Director Father Michael Makri, represented the Institution and received the award conferred by Daniel Chuburu, the Ambasador of Argentina Republic.
The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Avelo Roy (M.D. Kolkata Ventures), Dr HK Sardana (Chief Scientist CSIO), Amal Mohammed Said (Education Attache Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia), Aaron Namah Simtim (Secretary Ghana High Commission). The Keynote speakers on the occasion were Nancy Juneja (Founder at Recipient Success Coach and Leadership Mentor), Jiya Phutela (the Google girl of India), Maria Lopez (Spain Government Representative on Education), Vivekananda Prasad (Founder Techprolabz School of Robotics), Munish Kindaki (Founder and EEO at Hover Robotix) and Dr. Mala Sen Gupta (Associate Director, Asian College of Teachers).
On this achievements, the director Father Michael recounted that this journey started with a complaint from past students about the validity of the Certificate issued by the Centre. 'True, our past certificate had only 'Don Bosco' as our trademark' said Father Michael 'and when a complaint is filed, we stand nowhere. Thus, in the month of March we began to apply for the ISO certification. The team that came from Delhi for this certification, after having gone through our website, videos and photos and the prospectus granted us the ISO certificate in the first week of June. Priya Bedi one of the officers then encouraged me to register for an International Conference. I did the same, I paid 2500 rupees, for the registration and on the 14th August - we received a mail stating about the date and the venue of the conference with a note saying that our institution is eligible for the Top Ten Favorite Schools/Institutions Award 2019,' he said. 'This award is the result of the hard work of the past Directors and teachers,' credited the Director.
Since 2018, the Centre is offering about 32 different courses on Computer, Media, Hardware, Soft Skills, Tailoring, Embroidery etc.. besides providing its facilities for the AAA meeting, Prayer meeting, counseling and many other Youth related activities.
