A new year begins at Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai

Shillong, Aug. 17. Shillong: The Academic year for the new session of 2019-2020 of SHTC was inaugurated on the 8th August 2019 at Karotempel Hall. Father Paul Olphindro sdb, the Provincial of Shillong Province was the chief Guest. The key note speaker of the function was His grace Archbishop Dominic Jala Sdb. The occasion was also marked with the presence of esteem guests, teaching staff, religious and lay people.
The programme began with the Holy Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Archbishop Dominic Jala Sdb. The Rector of the Sacred Heart Theological College (SHTC) at the outset of the Eucharistic Celebration welcomed the faithful and introduced the purposed of the act of faith. In the breaking of the word His Grace put a challenge to the students to venture in the field of learning more about Christ the TRUTH. He also said the students need to prepare to encounter the truth. The study should help the students to guide the people so they are not misleading by many wrong teachings in the society. The celebration of the Holy Eucharist led the community into deep prayers invoking God's Holy Spirit to guide in journey to find the Truth.  

In the inaugural function after the Holy Eucharist Father Philip Barjo, the Rector of the College addressed and welcomed the new students of B.Th. He said the choice that they had made to study in SHTC was a better choice. He also said that let this the academic year be a new chapter in the lives of every students of theology. The students are responsible for their learning and should make the most used of the time in learning. The chief Guest Father Paul Olphindro challenged the students to live a life filled with Truth.  He said good theologians give meaning to the reality of life in the street. Taking the insight from the scriptures he said, ''they pour wine to the wounds...'' He invited all the students to place themselves daily at the feet of Jesus. ''We are to be pastors and not Policemen'', he cited the word of Pope Francis. In the keynote addressed of His Grace Dominic Jala, highlighted the process of translation of prayers to the vernacular languages of the people. He presented the tremendous effort done by the experts who involve in the task of translation of prayers especially of the Holy Eucharistic prayers. He invited the students to value the prayers and to learn to love prayers. The programme was concluded with invoking of the blessings of God in the beautiful singing of the Hymn to Don Bosco.
