Shillong, Jul. 2. Shillong: On 1st July, 2019 the Sacred Heart Theological College gathered in prayer and joy for diaconal ordination of the twenty Seven clerics; twenty belonging to the Salesians Congregation, two to the orders of TOR and one belonging to the Capuchin Congregation.
The rite to the ordination took place during the solemn Eucharistic celebration of the Holy Mass at 6:30 am presided over by Archbishop Dominic Jala Sdb, DD. In the spirit of faith His Grace invited the congregation to pray that the ordained ministers of God may be clothed by the power of the Holy Spirit. He also invited the deacons to generously response to the pastoral need and to the call they have chosen.

At the beginning of his homily, the Archbishop reminded the role of the ordained Deacons in the church; to preach the Word of God, to assist at the altar of the Lord and in the Church's sacramental life, and to engage in charitable ministry to the poor and vulnerable. From the Opening Prayer, the Collect, of the Holy Mass His grace placed before the deacons their first and priority task as deacons namely, ''efficacy in action, gentle in ministry, and constant in prayer.'' In that moment of grace and joy the deacons surrendered themselves in prayers and in faith to God.

After the homily, His Grace prayed over them and laid hands upon them as an effective sign by which the Holy Spirit will fashion in the depths of their hearts the image of Christ the deacon. Christ the servant of all, who came ''not to be served but to serve, to give his life as a ransom for many'' (Mt. 20:28).

In the Shrine of Sacred of Jesus and with the heart full of gratitude to God; the Community entrusted the deacons to the hands of our Blessed Lady in prayers - asking her intercession - that they may always be ''effective in action, gentle in ministry, and constant in prayer.'' The community wish the deacons God's blessings in their ministry and keep them always in His love.
