Shillong, Jun. 10. Shillong: The annual pilgrimage to sacred Heart Shrine at Mawlai, SHTC was held on 9 June 2019. The Celebration was graced by the presence of Archbishop Dominic Jala, SDB as the main celebrant of the day.
The Holy Eucharistic Celebration began at 10:30 am celebrated by His Grace Dominic Jala sdb and concelebrated by numbers of priests from nearby religious institutes. The pilgrimage had coincided with the Solemnity of Pentecost known to be ''The Birth Day of Our Mother Church''. His Grace in the homily shared about the role of the Holy Spirit in the Church. He said the Church needs the Holy Spirit to bring understanding, peace and unity. The faithful should pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit to unite the Church. Adding to this he also said about St. Paul who spoke about the Holy Spirit who entered everyone's hearts. As he concludes he exhorted all the pilgrims to be like Jesus in words and deeds. Like the Lord every Christian is called to be merciful and at the service of every fellow men.

The adoration service continued in the afternoon while the faithful dispersed for lunch break. The common adoration to the Blessed Sacrament held at 2:00 pm was animated by Father Marius Thongni, the parish Priest of Mawlai. The faithful once again led into the spirit of prayers and devotions through hymns and intercessory prayers during the adoration. The singing by the choir Choral Evangelists added more beauty and prayerful atmosphere to the celebration.

The afternoon reflection was shared by Father James Thyrniang SDB, the Economer of Shillong Province.  In his sharing he traced back the history of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He also recalled the work of great missionaries of the Khasi-Jantia Hills who sow the seed of faith and today it became a reality. He concluded with an invitation to come closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to be more like Him in our daily lives.
