Celebrating Love and Fraternity- Provincial Community Day 2019 By Father George Shining LyngkhoiShillong, May. 16. Shillong: How lovely it is for brothers to live together in peace and unity. Provincial Community Day celebrates love, unity, fraternity, friendship and support.
St. John Paul II Province, Shillong celebrated its provincial community day in St. Anthony's Hr. Sec. School (STC Community) on 11th May, 2019; a day after the conclusion of its 3rd Provincial Chapter. The confreres of the province gathered around the table of the Lord at 9:30a.m. in which the Provincial, Father Paul O. Lyngkot, was the main celebrant. Father Anthony Kharkongor, one of the council members, welcomed everyone to partake in the Eucharistic Table. In his homily, Rev. Father (Dr.) P. V. Joseph beautifully blended the role played by our heavenly Mother in fulfilling our dream as a Congregation and as a Province. He placed on record our profound gratitude to God, to Mother Mary, to the pioneers; the provincials and their councils past and present were duly acknowledged. Since our predilection is for young people, Father P. V. Joseph also summarised the nine chapters of the Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit by Pope Francis.
During the family gathering, Father L. B. Anthony, Rector STC community welcomed everyone. He defined the occasion as the meeting point of the old and the new; confreres with experience and with freshness - all for the same mission. In his words of appreciation, Rev. Father Roy Anthony appreciated the Provincial for person that he was and for all the things the latter had done for the province. Father Roy also thanked the provincial for accepting the responsibility to be the leader which by itself was a message that the provincial trusted the confreres. The provincial, Father Paul Olphindro Lyngkot, delivered a beautiful message for all the confreres on being broad minded like Don Bosco who extended his hands to every one 'we should be Salesians for others and reach out' concluded the Provincial through a song.
The solemnity of the day was added through the presence and the items presented by Brothers from Sacred Heart Theological College (SHTC), the novices from Sunnyside, the aspirants from Nonglakhiat and the apostolic boys from Savio Juniorate. Father John Changsan, in his own style, expressed the sentiments gratitude on behalf of everyone for everyone.
The words Msgr. John Cagliero, ''Monk or no monk, I will stay with Don Bosco'' seemed to be applicable.
