Shillong, Jan. 20. Shillong: Ten men in Shillong were today 19th January, ordained priests by Most Rev. Archbishop Dominic Jala amidst 116 priests, over 200 religious and more than ten thousand faithful who gathered in the premises of the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Shillong Archdiocese.
'You did not chose me, it is I, who chose you' echoed the faithful in hymns as they welcomed the ten deacons who walked in procession to the podium accompanied by  Archbishop Dominic Jala sdb, the superiors of the various religious congregations and 116 priests.

The rite of ordination to the order of the presbyterate took place after the Liturgy of the Word. The names of the ten deacons were called; they responded their willingness and answered YES HERE I AM.

The Archbishop then gave a homily to advice the ten deacons and the faithful especially on the role of priests in the Eucharist. The shepherd of the Archdiocese, stressed on the role of the priests in the Eucharist as this year the Archdiocese is celebrating the year of the Eucharist. He divided his homily into three parts - the three roles of the priests in the Eucharist. The first part on the role of the priests in the breaking of the Word - or the Liturgy of the Word, the Archbishop requested the priests and the faithful as well that in this part, it is God who speaks, it is Jesus the Word who speaks therefore utmost respect and reverence be given. The second part is the Liturgy of the Eucharist, when the bread and wine brought to the Altar is consecrated and it changes into the body and the blood of Jesus our Saviour. It is the mystery of faith for the believers and hence utmost participation and awareness be given. Lastly, the rite of dismissal, when the Holy Mass is ended, we are commanded by Jesus through the words of the priest that what the faithful have received both in the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist should put into practice for the rest of their lives.

The deacons were ordained priests by the Archbishop of implored the Holy Spirit through prayers of blessings and laying of hands on the deacons. The names of the ten new priests are Father Donbosco Kharmawlong SDS, Father Lambert Marbaniang, Father Starlight Khongsit SDS, Father Primus Syiem Khongjoh SDB, Father Barister Khongrymmai SJ, Father Michael Khongngain SDB, Father Pyndeilang Khonglad SDB, Father Richard Louis Rapthap SDB, Father Ksankupar Khongwar SDS, and Father Moses Khongwir.
