Leadership Insights for Principals to run student centered schools

Shillong, Oct. 24. A two day training programme for the school principals of the Salesian Province of Shillong, in collaboration with Don Bosco Youth Animation centre, Delhi, was held at the Don Bosco Provincial House, Shillong from 22-23 october 2018. Mr. Vivekananda and Dr. Sandhya Kumar, from Academy for Creative Teaching, Bengaluru, were the resource persons. Twenty five principals participated in this training session.
Father John Zosiama, the Vice-provincial welcomed the participants and highlighted the purpose of the training session. Thereafter Father Paul Olphindro, the Provincial addressed all the participants and thanked everyone for having come for the training programme.  Later, the resource persons were presented with a traditional scarf by Father Provincial as a sign of welcome.

The training session began with Mr. Vivekananda dividing the participants into four groups and helping the participants to understand the motives and purpose of group division. He further enlightened the participants concerning the difficulties and uneasiness involved in the process of group division. Moving forward with the session, Mr. Vivekananda, emphasized the power of leadership with lots of group discussions, sharing, puzzles, problem solving games and power point presentation. He also enumerated the various qualities of an effective leader, which further enriched the participants.

Dr. Sandhya Kumar, a psychologist, dealt with the mind set of person in which she highlighted the two important kinds of mind sets: Fixed Mindset and Growing Mindset. She dealt with the topic in a more elaborative way.  She also touched upon the Neuro problems of the brain. It was indeed a noteworthy and enriching session. The participants, on the whole, gained a lot of information and come to know more about how to deal with school students and teachers.

The active participation of the principals and the expertise of the resource persons made the training session a grand success. Thanks to the DBYA, Delhi and the Shillong Province for organizing such a lovely training programme for the principals of the province.
