Father Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh, SDB passes away

Shillong, May. 28. Father Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh SDB passed away at 5.10 AM, 28 May at Nazareth Hospital, Shillong. He was 95 years of age. The funeral will be on Monday, 30 May. The funeral Mass will begin  at the Shillong Cathedral at 1.30 PM  followed by the funeral cortege to Laitumkhrah Catholic cemetery, where the departed will be laid to rest.
Father Sngi was born on 3 January 1921 in the present day Bhoi district of Meghalaya. He professed as a Salesian on 6 January 1948 and was ordained priest on 1 July 1958 in Turin, Italy. After specialised studies in Sacred Scripture, he taught the subject at Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong and Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore ever since 1961.

A versatile personality, a lifelong teacher and writer, a most zealous missionary, and a loving and lovable priest, a healer of the sick, 'a shepherd who felt the smell of the sheep', his death is mourned by thousands of people here in Meghalaya and in other parts of the country.

The Salesian Province of Silchar deeply mourns the passing away of Father Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh S.D.B. on Saturday 28th May 2016 at Nazareth Hospital, Shillong at 5.10 a.m.

The Funeral Mass will be held at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Shillong on 30th May 2016, at 1:30 p.m., presided over by His Grace Archbishop Dominic Jala SDB which will be followed by the Funeral Cortege to the Laitumkhrah Catholic Cemetery. The Mortal Remains of Father Sngi is placed at Sacred Heart College Shrine, Mawlai on Saturday, Sunday and Monday till 10.00 a.m.

There will be Concelebrated Requiem Mass at Sacred Heart College Shrine at 6.00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  All Religious, Priests, the Faithful and his Friends are invited to attend the Services and pray for the repose of his Soul.
