'Bosco Olympics' at Don Bosco School Silchar

Shillong, Dec. 6. Don Bosco School, Silchar organized 'Bosco Olympics 2015' at city's Assam Rifles Grounds from 30th November to 4th December 2015. An array of exciting and thrilling events marked the much-awaited event in which students of the school, hailing from 25 states belonging to 30 linguistic groups, participated. Father George Maliekal, the Salesian Provincial graced the inaugural function as the Chief Guest. Lt. Col. Upadhyaya, the Officiating Commandant, 2 MGAR, Silchar and Praveen S.V. the Assistant Commandant, 2 Workshop, Assam Rifles were the Guests of Honour.
At the start of the event Father Maliekal, the Chief Guest, unfurled the Bosco Olympics Flag and received the salute as Jimmy, Kalpana, Rafi and Tagore Contingents marched past. The solemn ceremonial Olympic flame was carried by the school leaders accompanied by student representatives from Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat and West Bengal symbolizing the unity in diversity of our country. The Chief Guest left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of all the Bosconians through his motivating speech. After the solemn pledge, the Chief Guest declared the Bosco Olympics open. The excitement and enthusiasm knew no bounds when the students were intimated about the new events like Triathlon, Strength Lifting, Slow and fast cycling along with the marathon race, various track events and field events like square ball, hand ball, foot ball, cricket, kabbadi, kho kho, high jump, long jump, shot put etc. The Bosconians participated in all the events with a true spirit of sportsmanship. Interesting events were also organized for the teachers.

Rafi House was declared as the overall champion of Bosco Olympics 2015, followed by Kalpana, Jimmy and Tagore houses. The 5-day long Bosco Olympics ended when the Olympics flag was lowered solemnly in the presence of Col. Sudip Bose from 9 Mahar Regiment and Col.D.K.Singh from 124 Brigade, Silchar who graced the closing ceremony. The management, staff and students are grateful to Lt. Col. Swarup Bera and his team for the excellent arrangement they made to host the event.  

The Principal, Father Nelson Joseph, appreciated the staff and students for their active participation in Bosco Olympics. He called it an example of 'teamwork' and added, ''the teamwork made the dream work.
