Shillong, Oct. 11. The Salesian Province of Silchar celebrated the Silver Jubilee of Priestly Ordination and Religious Profession of their confreres at an impressive programme held at Sacred Heart Theological College (SHTC), Mawlai, Shillong on 9 October.
The jubilarians felicitated were Fr KA Thomas and Fr Edmund Lakra, who celebrate silver jubilee of their priestly ordination, and Fathers Sebastian Tirkey, KJ Antony, Stephen Kharbani, Christopher Warlarpih and George Rodrigues, who celebrate Silver jubilee of their Religious Profession. Fr Rodrigues based in New Delhi was unable to be present at the programme.

Jubilarian Fr Edmund Lakra presided over the Eucharist with which the day's celebrations began. Besides the other jubilarians, those who concelebrated at the Solemn Mass in the newly renovated Shrine of the Sacred Heart included the Provincial of Silchar Province Fr. George Maliekal and several other priests.

Among the congregation present were the parents and relatives of Fr KJ Antony and Fr Warlarpiha, the Salesian Novices from near by Sunnyside, religious Sisters from the communities of Shillong, and a large group of lay faithful from the city parishes.

Fr. John Eapen Kalathoor who preached the homily dwelt on the meaning of Jubilee and its implications for life.

Archbishop of Shillong Dominic Jala graced the occasion joining in for the felicitation program held in the Platinum Jubilee Memorial Hall of SHTC, immediately after the Mass. The Provincial presented to all the Jubilarians a 'token of love and appreciation' for the 'faithful twenty five years' they have spent in the Lord's service.

A notable event of the programme was the releasing of a book on Khasi Ethics authored by Fr. Barnes Mawrie, President of SHTC.

Brothers Dabitlang Daniel Cajee and Ujjwal Bando ably compered the felicitation programme at which the audience was treated to a lot of music and dance.
