Shillong, Aug. 20. The Management, staff and students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School. Khliehriat, in East Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya joined the Salesian Family the world over in inaugurating the bicentenary year of Don Bosco's birth. On 16th August 2014, the grounds of Khliehriat Higher Secondary school came alive with cheers and songs in praise of Don Bosco, a household name in the Khasi Hills of Meghalaya.
A large group of students attended the day's functions which included a special prayer service, the solemn hoisting of the Bicentenary Flag and the Holy Mass. Member of the Legislative Assembly from Khleihriat Ma Justin Dkhar, was the chief guest at the celebrations, and accompanying Mr. Dkhar was Ma Hambertus Nongtdu, Ex-CEM of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council as a Guest of Honour.

The invited guests paid homage to the saint of youth, who in their words had immensely contributed to changing the youth scenario of the world at large and Northeast India, in particular. While expressing their happiness to be associated with the yearlong celebrations, they hoped the bicentenary celebrations would pave the way for even more society-friendly initiatives from the Salesians. They also called on the youth to pay heed to the exhortations of Don Bosco which are as relevant today as they were two hundred years ago.

The Prayer Service specially prepared for the event was held prior to the Flag hoisting. After lpaying homage to St. John Bosco with lit candles, the Parish priest, Fr. PM Mathew hoisted the Bicentenary Flag, and the Students took the pledge to lead upright lives, striving thereby to become honest citizens.

The brief program was followed by a solemn celebration of the Holy Mass in which everyone actively took part. At the end of the Mass, refreshments were distributed to all the students and lunch was served for all teachers and invited guests.
