Shillong, Jul. 5. The mortal remains of Servant of God Fr. Constantine Vendrame were translated into the recently renovated Shrine of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Mawlai (Shillong) on 1st July 2014.
The prayerful function took place at the end of the solemn Mass and the ordination of deacons presided over by Most Rev. Dominic Jala, Archbishop of Shillong.

As a fitting homage to the Servant of God, the casket containing his mortal remains was placed beneath the original sanctuary of the Shrine built by Fr. Vendrami himself in 1934.

Archbishop Dominic Jala exhorted everyone to imitate and spread the holiness and the missionary zeal of this pioneer Salesian missionary of the region. Fr. Vendrami, popularly known as ''Vendra'' is known as 'the Francis Xavier of the Khasis'.

The diocesan process was completed as a step towards the canonization. Fr. Barnes Mawrie is the Vice-Postulator of the process of canonization.

Fr. George Maliekal SDB (Provincial Silchar), Fr. Thomas Vattathara SDB (Provincial Guwahati), Fr. Jose Vettath (Rector SHTC), Bro. John Colombi (Savio Juniorate) and Fr. Barnes Mawrie signed as witnesses to the translation of the mortal remains.

A very meaningful act. To place the mortal remains of the Servant of God Fr. Vendrame in the Church he himself built in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I pray that Jesus works a miracle to hasten the process of canonization as a help to boost the missionary spirit in the region and everywhere else in the Church. Fr. P.V. Joseph SDB
