Eighteen Deacons Ordained in Shillong

The Newly Ordained Deacons with Archbishop Jala, Fr. VM Thomas Provincial ING and Fr. George Maliekal, Provincial INS.

Shillong, Jul. 5. 18 clerics were ordained deacons at Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai (Shillong) on 1 July 2014.

The solemn Eucharist at which the ordinations took place, was presided over by Archbishop Jala, and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Vattathara Thomas SDB (Provincial Guwahati), Rev. Fr. George Maliekal SDB (Provincial Silchar), Rev. Fr. Vettath Jose (Rector) and staff of Sacred Heart Theological College and other priests, and participated by the College community.

Re-echoing the words of Pope Francis 'to move to the peripheries to serve the most needy ones' Archbishop Dominic Jala exhorted the candidates to commit themselves to serve the Lord and his people through the gift of ordination.

The newly ordained deacons are set for the pastoral ministry in their own home provinces/dioceses.
