Shillong, Sep. 14.   Shillong: Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai, which had its inception in 1938 is set to celebrate the 75th year of its foundation. Theological formation was actually started in 1928 in the old Our Lady's House in Laitumkhrah which was lost in a conflagration on 6th April, 1936.
Two years later the theologate proper was started in Mawlai with Fr. Edward Gutierrez as the first rector. Some of the pioneering rectors of the theologate were Fr. Vendrame, Fr. Pianazzi, Fr. Paviotti, Fr. Marchesi and Fr. Zampetti.

The College had three disruptions in its existence of 75 years. During World War II (1939-45) the college was closed down and it became a detention camp.

In the 1960s during the Chinese aggression the College was once again disrupted.

Again from 1967-75 the College was closed down and the students were shifted to Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore. Due to the intervention of Fr. Matthew Pulingathil, the then provincial of Guwahati, SHTC was once again reopened in 1976.

Since then the College has been forging ahead in excellent service to the Church of India. Hundreds of zealous missionaries and valiant Salesians have passed out of the college. Many of them are working in different parts of the world.

To mark the Platinum Jubilee Year, the College is organizing a National Seminar on the theme ''Creating and sustaining conditions for proclaiming and living the faith'' from 19th to 21st September.

A jubilee concert will also be held on 17th, 19th and 20th October 2013. All the ex-alumni of SHTC are cordially welcome to join the celebrations.
