Becoming Models of Faith in the Modern World - Year of Faith Celebration in Shillong By Sr. Euginia Laloo FMAShillong, Aug. 20. The Archdiocese of Shillong in collaboration with the CRI Shillong unit celebrated the Year of Faith on August 17 at Don Bosco Technical School. The theme of the celebration was ''Models of Faith in the Modern World''. 200 religious men, women and clergy from the Archdiocese of Shillong participated in the event.
Most Rev. Dominic Jala SDB, D.D, Archbishop of Shillong, inaugurated the day's programme at 9.30 a.m with lighting of the lamp. Then Fr. Thomas Kannala SDB, one of the Executive members of CRI Shillong Unit, also the chairperson of the day, led the assembly to the presence of God through an inspiring video presentation on faith.
Fr. Jose Chunkapura SDB, Vice Rector of Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong was the resource person of the day. Speaking on the theme, he initiated the topic with a song and then presented the characteristics of the modern world and a ten-point idea that would help to be models of faith in this modern world.
There was also opportunity for those present to share some of the activities and programs conducted as part of the celebration of the year of faith in the different parishes and institutions. The Archbishop then pointed out to the need of religious becoming authentic and effective witnesses of the faith in today's modern world context.
Later there was the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided over by His Grace Dominic Jala SDB DD. ''Be strong in faith'' said Archbishop Dominic during the homily. He also exhorted all present to approach young people and be communicators of faith to them. He applauded the great contribution of the young people from Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur who studied in Don Bosco Shillong and in turn became sources of apostolic faith in their respective places.
The Celebration was a grand success thanks to the meticulous planning of the day's events by the office bearers of CRI Shillong Unit.
