Salesian Provincial Conference meet at Siloam, Shillong By Fr. George Maliekal, ProvincialShillong, Aug. 12. The Province of Silchar was privileged to host SPCSA Council meeting on 10th and 11th of August 2013. The Council consists of Rev. Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, the Regional Councillor and President, Rev. Fr. Noel Maddhichetty, the Secretary and the Provincials of India and the Superior of the Vice Province of Sri Lanka. The meeting was held at Siloam, where a new chapel dedicated to Christ the Light was inaugurated on the occasion.
The sessions of the Council meeting were presided over by Fr. Maria Arokiam. The initial session took up the minutes of the previous meeting for follow up on the deliberations. The sessions took up discussion on the concept and the project of new SPCSA Centre at Gurgaon, the appointment of personnel at the service of SPCSA and other national services etc. It approved the budget for Missionary Animation Commission for the year 2013-14.
Plans for the national level Don Bosco Bicentenary celebration was also an important feature of discussion. At the national level three significant events are being planned for 2015: (i) Youth Expo in Delhi (ii) Salesian Family Congress in Kolkatta (iii) Boscoree at Thanjavoor.
The blessing of newly constructed chapel of Christ the Light at Siloam on 11th August was a memorable event for the participants of the council. The chapel distinct for its aesthetic and prayerful touch is the fruit of dedicated work of Fr. George Palamattam with his collaborators and benefactors. His Grace Archbishop Dominic Jala blessed the chapel and presided over the Holy Eucharist, concelebrated by all the SPCSA Council and several other priests. There was a large gathering of religious and others, especially young people who are the main beneficiaries of Siloam.
In the afternoon on 11th August, Fr. Maria Charles, Delegate of DBYA presented to the Council two important documents, namely (i) Don Bosco Child Policy India, 2013 and Don Bosco Child Protection Policy India, 2013. After some sharing and clarifications, the Council approved both the documents and decided to disseminate the contents of the policies in respective provinces with due urgency and seriousness.
The occasion also witnessed the release of two books: (i) 'Empowering the Young', a report of Youth Services by Don Bosco Network in South Asia 2012-13, DBYA-SA (ii) 'In the service of the Young', Exploring Youth Services and Spaces in South Asia, ed. Maria Charles.
Another significant event of the concluding session was the inauguration of the new website of DBYA. Fr. Maria Arokiam inaugurated the new website and congratulated Fr. Maria Charles and the team for the achievement.
The SPCSA members place on record the goodness shown by the confreres and the staff at Siloam and appreciate greatly the setting and the logistics of the place at the service of all.
