South Asian Missionary Course for Salesian Family Commences in Shillong

Shillong, Aug. 4. The First Missionary Course for the SDBs and members of the Salesian Family of South Asia, got to a simple but impressive start on 3rd August evening at Mathias Institute, Shillong.
The Course for the Salesian Family of South Asia has 24 participants: 16 Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), 6 Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and 2 Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (MSMHC). Of the 16 SDBs, 1 is a Filipino missionary working in Taiwan, 5 from Mumbai Province, 2 each from Bangalore, Silchar and Kolkata provinces,  and one each from Myanmar, Chennai, New Delhi and Guwahati Provinces.

The welcome and inauguration programme was held in Mathias Institute at 8.00 pm. The Choral Evangelists, a BYG of Silchar Province, welcomed the missionaries with a rendition of beautiful songs. The missionaries were then garlanded with Gamosas, and welcomed in a traditional Assamese style, after which the priliminary programme of the Course was commenced with self-introductions and instructions.

The Course is organized by the Department of Salesian Missions, Rome in collaboration with Sacred Heart Theological College, Shillong. Fr. Jose Anikuzhikattil and Fr. Alfred Maravilla from the Department are the coordinators of the Programme.
