Shillong, Oct. 12. The Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures (DBCIC) has added another feather to its cap on 12th October 2012 with the inauguration and opening of a new gallery in the museum building. The new gallery 'Our Neighbours' showcases the five neighbouring countries of the North East (China, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh).
The new gallery was blessed by Rev Dominic Jala, the archbishop of Shillong and inaugurated by Rev Fr. Joseph Almeida, the former provincial of the Salesian of Don Bosco, Guwahati province. The archbishop implored the blessings of the Almighty at the endeavor of the museum and those working in it. After the prayer of blessing, Fr. Joseph cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the new gallery for public viewing. It is a matter of great pride for the museum that it was able to showcase and dedicate a gallery for the neighbouring countries. In the words of Fr. Joseph Puthenpurackal, the Director of DBCIC, 'The Gallery can be considered as a cultural bridge of Friendship with Nepal, Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Bangladesh'.

The short gathering was welcomed by the director of the Museum, Rev Fr. Joseph Puthenpurackal. The opening of the new gallery is of great significance for the museum that those who visit the museum will gain much from the exhibits on the five neighbouring countries.

Smt. Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the Don Bosco Museum on 5th March 2010. The museum has 17 galleries altogether, each of them containing unique collection of the tribal artifacts from the seven states of the North East and Sikkim. The newly opened gallery was constructed with the purpose of teaching the visitors about the richness and beauty of the countries surrounding the seven states of the North East.
