The Salesian Province of Silchar Bids Farewell to Msg. Rajendran

Shillong, Sep. 3. The Salesian Family of Shillong organized a solemn get together on September 2, 2012 to congratulate and felicitate the Bishop elect of Thuckalay, Msg. George Rajendran Kuttinadar, for his service to the Salesian congregation and to the North East in particular.
The programme was held at St. Anthony's Higher Secondary School in the presence of the archbishop of Shillong, Most Rev. Dominic Jala SDB, confreres from the different Salesian Communities of Shillong, members of the Salesian Family,including Cooperators and alumni, and students from the different schools of Shillong.

Among those who spoke on this occasion was Br. Albert Longley Dkhar, the Principal of St. Anthony's College, who in his speech, recalled the time he spent together with Msg. Rajendran in St. Anthony's School. ''Msg. Rajendran as a Vice Principal of the school was committed to the work entrusted to him'', said Bro. Albert. He personally thanked Msg. Rajendran for the dedicated service in building up St. Anthony's H. S. School.

On behalf of the Salesian Province of Silchar, Fr. Paul Olphindro Lyngkot, the Vice Provincial, expressed his gratefulness to the bishop elect and extended his congratulations to him, wishing him luck as he would be going to encounter new challenges in his new appointment. Fr. Paul Lyngkot reminded those present that it took the new province of Silchar just three months to produce a bishop. This indicated the love of God for the newly erected Salesian province, he averred.

Archbishop Dominic Jala of Shillong advised the newly appointed Monsignor with the words of St. Augustine: 'Imbibe a perfect love for charity. Like the wise man pray for the strength of the Spirit to guide you.''

Msg. Rajendran thanked the superiors and everyone for grooming him in the Salesian Spirit and for the support and guidance given to him in his formation and in the following of his vocation. He said that the Salesian province of Guwahati, and presently the Province of Silchar, have nurtured him in his religious vocation. He was indebted to the confreres and the people of North East for the brotherly and sisterly concern they shared with him since he set foot in the mission land, he stated.

Earlier a good a number of confreres concelebrated the Holy Eucharist with Msg. Rajendran. Fr. L.B. Anthony, Rector of Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong in his sermon stated, reflecting on the Word of God, that God had sent Mgr. Rajendran to this part of the foreign land to groom him, and now the same God was calling him back to the land of his forefathers to rescue his people. Fr. L.B. Antony elaborated on the magic number 44, the age of the newly elected bishop, and the achievements of some great people when they reached the age of 44. ''Age is not an issue but everything is to be done for the greater glory and service of God,'' said Fr. L. B. Anthony.

A Cultural programme from the different communities of Shillong added colour to the solemn gathering in honour of Msg. George Rajendran.
