Shillong, Jul. 4. On July 01, 2012 in the early morning hours, 27 candidates  prostrated themselves in front of the altar at Sacred Heart Shrine - Mawlai (Shillong), in total surrender to the Lord.  Archbishop Dominic Jala laid his hands on them and the congregation invoked the intercession of all the saints through the solemn litany. 27 young men - after years of preparation, prayer and reflection took another decisive step towards the priesthood saying 'I am ready and willing.'
Of the 27 deacons, 21 are SDB,  4 are OFM and 2 are OFM Cap. The SDBs belong to the various provinces of India (INK- 2; INN- 3; INC-2; IND- 3; ING-6; INS- 5).
The newly ordained deacons have left for ministry at different centres. They will return to the College on  September 15, to complete their B. Th studies and the Pastoral Course.

The solemn liturgy was well prepared; the ceremony was prayerfully conducted; thanks to Fr. Vettath Jose, Rector, the staff and the community of Sacred Heart Theological College.

As the Deacons look forward to their ordination to priesthood by the end of the year, may their lives be 'prophet, servant' for our times modelled on the heart of Jesus the Good Shepherd.
