Panjim, Dec. 30. Deacons Sandesh Fernandes and Roshan D'Souza were ordained priests by Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi diocese at Rosary Church, Kundapur on December 27, 2016.
The ordination ceremony was well attended by a number of priests as well as lay people. In his homily the Bishop spoke about the role of the priest in the church. He emphasized the fact that a priest is a person chosen by God to serve his people. Hence a priest should be a man of prayer. Only a holy priest can be a good Christian leader.
After their ordination the newly ordained priests concelebrated the Holy Mass with the Bishop. Father Felix Fernandes, SDB the provincial of the Panjim province expressed his gratitude to the Bishop for conferring upon the deacons the sacrament of Holy Order.
The ordination motto chosen by Father Roshan is from Micah 6: 8 - "...to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God", while Father Sandesh chose - Called to imitate God's mercy. Father Roshan asked the congregation to pray that he may be a holy priest and inculcate his motto in his Salesian priestly life. After having celebrated a yearlong Jubilee Year based on God's Mercy Father Sandesh's commitment to imitate God's mercy is very much relevant, especially among the young.
The Eucharistic celebration was followed by a short felicitation program for the newly ordained, compared by Father Maxim D'Souza, SDB. During the program the newly ordained thanked all those people who made this day happen in their lives. The parish priest Father Anil D'Souza expressed his sentiments saying that hopefully this ceremony will inspire other youngsters to join the priesthood as well.
