Dr Banzelao Teixeira sdb awarded Gold Medal

By Joaquim Lobo
Panjim, Oct. 13. Dr Banzelao Teixeira sdb will be awarded a Gold Medal for obtaining 30/30 in his doctoral thesis.
After defending his thesis, he came back to the province on April 26, 2016 and took up the role of a Prefect of Studies of the Novices at Salesian Training Institute, Nashik and as a professor at Divyadaan, an Institute of Philosophy at Nashik.

The Provincial of Salesian Province of Panjim, Father Felix Fernandes mentioned that Father Banzelao Julio Teixeira sdb hailing from Cortalim, Goa, is awarded the GOLD MEDAL by the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) for obtaining the maximum marks in his doctoral dissertation. Rector Major, Father Angel Fernandez Artime, the tenth successor of Don Bosco himself, will confer it on him on October 19, 2016 at UPS, Rome.

Father Teixeira defended his thesis on March 18 entitled "The Tractatus de Signis of John Poinsot and New Realism: A Study of John Deely's Proposal". The thesis seeks to provide a philosophical justification to contemporary semiotics. Deely claims that Poinsot was among the first to provide a systematic treatise on signs, proving how signs penetrate nature as well as culture, the outer world as well as our inner processes to make meaning of knowledge and reality. The research work concentrates on philosophy and communication (semiotics).

Father Teixeira was guided by Prof. Mauro Mantovani, presently Rector Magnificus of the UPS, Rome. The defence commission consisted of Prof. Luis Roson Galache, Prof. Graziano Perillo, and Prof. Joaquim D'Souza, besides the guide, Prof. Mantovani.

Presently Father Teixeira is the new dean of Divyadaan after the appointment of Father Felix Fernandes, the ex-dean, the new Provincial of the Salesian Province of Panjim.
