Panjim, Nov. 6. Social Media (SM) is all about oneself, about becoming famous and telling the world who I am besides finding a career, meeting new friends, organizing reunions and budget restricted events said Branco at the youth interaction conducted as part of the BOSCOM General Body meeting at Don Bosco Panjim on Thursday.
An interesting dialogue between the Salesians participants and the youngsters was held to explore new dimensions to the ever growing means of communication the Social Media.
Comments such as SM is lesser damaging than the television, SM helps keeping in touch especially the parents with their children who have moved away, SM takes you from being unknown to a public space and makes you a celebrity over night, SM is the new platform to take on issue destroying the environment and the society, SM is magical, SM has transformed information into fluidity and reduced the world into a mustard seed etc were put forward by the youngsters with great conviction and josh.
The dialogue and interaction ended with commonly sentiments that SM is here to stay and putting it in Lyndon Pinto words its not the car that causes an accident but the driver behind the wheel.
A similar dialogue of senior doctors, journalists and experienced educators was held as the last activity of the first day.  The dialogue was moderated by BOSCOM Web Master Fr Cleophas Braganza. Psychologist Dr. Peter Castelino, Ex Principal Sharada Mandir and Sunshine School Diana Charles, Coordinator GOACAN Roland Martins, Health Specialist Dr. Nandita De Souza, Journalist Derek Almeida and Student of Mass Media Archie Fernandes presented arguments based on their personal and professional background.
It was interesting to note the other side of the popularity of the SM.  The panelists presented the social and the medical aspect of the influence and benefit of the SM.
The dialogue ended with on a positive note with journalist Derrick putting it aptly, SM is about ideas and communication.  The best way to beat from taking an ugly turn is it to join it and bombard it with good ideas and healthy dialogues.
