Panjim, Sep. 5. The fourth Provincial Chapter of the Province of Panjim commenced on August 31, 2015 with its first session at Don Bosco Provincial House, Odxel, Goa. 34 members of the Chapter consisting of Provincial, Provincial Council, Moderator, Rectors, Local Delegates, Province Delegates and Observers took part in the opening session.
The Chapter members assembled in the Chapel to invoke blessings of God on this very important process of the province.  Father Ian Figueiredo, Provincial, welcomed the members and announced the secretaries namely, Father Joe Fernandes and Father Simao Fernandes.  Father Maxim D'Souza, the Moderator declared the Chapter open.

The Chapter members then went in procession to the Chapter Hall invoking the assistance of the Holy Spirit singing the hymn, 'Veni Creator Spiritus'.  In the Chapter hall the members assembled in 3 regional groups for the sharing of the Word of God (Lectio Divina).  The prayer session ended by reciting the Prayer for the Chapter.

Father Maxim D'Souza, the moderator presented the themes emerging from the sharing at the Trimonthly recollections. The theme ''Credible as men of God and Relevant as Servants of the Young'' was unanimously accepted.  The chapter members also endorsed the 4 proposed themes namely - Quality of religious life, Care for Vocations, Reshaping Salesian Presences and taking Lay Collaboration forward.

The commissions are organized according to regions namely Maharashtra & North Goa, South Goa and Karnataka.  Each regional commission was divided into two, one taking up Quality of Religious Life and Vocations, and the other Reshaping Salesian Presences and Lay Collaboration.   The rationale in having regional commissions was to help the communities in the region to assess and own their quality of religious life and mission and bring about solidarity among the communities in the region.

The Chapter members opted for one of the two commissions in their region.  The Coordinators and Secretaries of the commissions were elected in the commissions.  The commissions then set to work preparing the plans to deal with the assigned themes effectively.  The plans were presented to the general assembly.  The business of the day ended with the concluding words by Father Figueiredo.
