Panjim, Dec. 5. Don Bosco College, Panaji launched its educational TV channel 'dbtv' on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Terrace Hall. Fr. Ian Figueiredo, Salesian Provincial of the Panjim Province launched the channel.  Fr. Wilfred Fernandes, Manager DBC and Dr. Mrs. Marie Raj, Principal, DBC Panaji were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Ian said that the channel was an extension of Don Bosco's principles. ''If in the past Don Bosco used the communication tools of speaking and writing, as well as theatre to get across to his students, today we have the privilege of the TV channel as a source of communication,'' he pointed out before he launched the broadcast channel.

Fr. Wilfred congratulated the core dbtv team for their efforts and urged students to make the best of the available opportunities.

The channel is available on no. 84 of the cable TV network.  It did a live telecast of a documentary on the life of Don Bosco followed by a program on astronomy and science by the mass media students.

The 'dbtv' core team comprises Mr. Shamir Diniz, creative head, Mr. Seby D'Souza, technical head, Mr. Sandesh Dhargalkar, Video journalist and Ms. Afiza Viegas, PR assistant.

Lorraine Fernandes, faculty, dept of mass media hosted the programme and Ms. Janhavi Savaikar, Faculty mass media, gave the vote of thanks.

A very good start. It is a need of the hour. This will be a great model for other provinces to think about it.

A right choice in stepping into the cable TV network rather than the satellite network channels. Because, though the satellite network provides Worldwide reach, the effect is always limited and oftentimes ignored by the people of distant land. The cable TV content and style will highly influence the local community. The DB people and DB TV become approachable and verifiable. A witnessing in real context, indeed !
