Children at Risk celebrate YAR Day and Child Rights Day By Leo PereiraPanjim, Nov. 26. Child Labour School children of Don Bosco Hubli had a combo celebration of ''Young At Risk Day'' and ''Child Rights Day'' in a very novel manner on 23 November at Don Bosco School, Sutgatti.
These children were able to exhibit their special talents and growth in the field of education, child rights and human dignity, during the celebration held at Don Bosco High School, Sutgatti, Dharwad. They put up skits on Child Labour at different places like cattle- grazing, garage and at construction sites. One child spoke about ''Child Marriage'' and its evil effects on the children. The children also sang many awareness songs on this issue.
The DDPI, of Hubli-Dharwad district, Mr. Vardan along with his team graced the occasion by his presence and motivated the children to develop their talents and gifts to the fullest. In his speech he appreciated the hard and dedicated work put in by the Sisters and teachers of Shanti Pragati Asha Kiran, Child Labour Residential School, at Hubli to bring these neglected and abandoned children to the mainstream of the Society. He assured that he would sponsor one professional to train these children in a professional manner in performing the skits and displaying it at the state level, and to put it up on T.V. and radio. He further urged the children to study hard and excel in their studies and become someone great in the society. He assured the children of his constant support and help.
Fr. Ian, the Chairman of Don Bosco Sutgatti, Huballi, in his speech appreciated the efforts put in by these children and encouraged them to take all the help given by the institution and build up their future. He urged them not to look behind but go ahead with their heads high and walk with human dignity and hope.
Fr. Leandro , the superior of the Don Bosco, Sutgatti, Fr. Leo, the Administrator, Fr. Tino, the Vice Principal of Don Bosco, Sr. Angeline the Director of Shanti Pragati and Sr. Irene D'Silva, the Prog.-Coordinator of the Child Labour Project, the Teachers, Students of Don Bosco were present on this occasion to celebrate the Youth At Risk (YAR) day along with Child Rights Day.
Miss Vaisnavi from Child Labour School coordinated the programme which concluded with a very meaningful song '' Let's me start again... pick the pieces of my emptiness....'' sung by the Don Bosco school students.
