Panjim, Apr. 10. We cannot direct the wind...but we can adjust our sails''
Rightly said, ''We cannot direct the wind...but we can adjust our sails''. Getting the children to Don Bosco, Trasi was like trying to direct the wind. Moving towards the shores of Marvanthe beach (trasi) was like adjusting our sails. Indeed true after sailing our boat for a year of hard work and daily commitment towards the education of the children who stay on the shores of Marvanthe beach.
The program started in the month of April 2011 with the ''Beach thrill camps'' that included a variety of games, talent search and various other competitions. At the end of the camp prizes were distributed to all. We then initiated the ''Evening Study Classes. Initially we had 8 children. The classes were first conducted on the beach as we did not find any shelter. Gradually, the village leaders and parents seeing our dedication to education and also noticing the increase in number of the students on the beach gave us permission to use the stage-cum-hall to conduct the special classes. We are glad that now the number is increased to 30.
The students basically belong to the BPL class as most of them come from the Kharvi (fishing) community. Many of the children are poor and attend the nearby government school. Many of them are very weak in studies while a handful is intelligent. The Children are very keen on learning the English language. Along with the study classes we felt that there was a need for a slight detour from the normal schedule. In this regard, we are also conducting various activities, games, awareness programs with regard to health and hygiene and other social values. We have one full time teacher, Bro. Joy and Fr. Leo Pereira who are involved in the program.

Miss. Jacintha Gonsalves, gave a session on the importance of keeping oneself and the surroundings clean. She further gave a demonstration of how one need to take care of their dental structure and how one should avoid various sweets in order to keep healthy. She stressed the need to brush their teeth preferably after every meal. Tooth brushes and tooth paste were later distributed to the students. To enhance their talent, she asked the students to write an essay on ''How can we help in keeping ourselves and the surroundings clean''. The best three essays were awarded with prizes.

On the 8th September 2011, we conducted various games some of which were also value based coupled with group folk songs competitions. At the end of the program prizes were distributed by the Rector Rev. Fr. Anand Noronha to the students who were attending the beach tuitions regularly. Special prizes were also awarded to the weaker students who have made progress in their studies. All the children were given some prize to encourage and motivate them. The children enjoyed the games and competitions that were conducted by Bro. Joy and this brought great joy and smiles on their faces. Fr. Anand who addressed the children encouraged them to study hard and come up in their studies and to become a better person.

March 30th marked the ''Concluding-cum-prize distribution day'' for the children. Fr. Anand Noronha congratulated the students for their effort and hard work they have put in studies and in taking part in the various activities during the year. While addressing the students he said, ''You can be successful in life if you simply avoid three things: Comparing, Complaining and Expectation''. He hoped that these daily tuition classes become a transit point for a better and successful life.

He later distributed the prizes to all the students and special gifts were given to the deserving ones. He thanked Fr. Leo, and Bro. Joy for their dedication, hard work and enthusiasm in conducting the tuition classes. The day came to a close with a variety of games being conducted and snack were later distributed..... truly indeed Don Bosco Trasi is set a sail.
