Youth in Fatorda rescue God from the dock...!!! By Banzelao Texeira sdbPanjim, Feb. 5. Youngsters from various Salesian youth groups of the Konkan-Panjim Province gathered at Don Bosco Fatorda on February 05, 2012 for the Youth Day. As the youth poured into the spacious environs of the Fatorda campus, they were marked with a stamp of Don Bosco and then invited to leave their hand prints on a beautiful collage that read ''I am for Jesus!'' a symbolic gesture of their commitment to Jesus Christ.
Fr Egidio Fernandes, resource person for the event, introduced the youngsters to the theme 'God in the Dock' He said ''young people begin to question many aspects of their faith when challenged by the situation in which they live.'' The youngsters were then grouped to discuss issues affecting their lives. The panel discussion including Sr Elizabeth, fma & Mr Arun, besides Fr Egidius Fernandes, was a definitive moment of catechesis. Issues that emerged during the group discussions, especially themes of human freedom, evil, sin, and the existence of God were discussed.
Fr Ian Figuereido, Provincial of the Konkan-Panjim province unfolded a spirituality of daily life where one can definitively discover the existence of God, during the Eucharist. ''Creation continuously speaks about the existence of God but we hardly have any time to listen to it and discover the Almighty as a personal God,'' remarked Fr Figuereido.
Post-lunch witnessed youngsters shouting, jumping and running to the group games, bringing to mind Don Bosco's application of St. Philip Neri's exhortation, ''Run, Jump, Shout, Play... but do not sin!'' The day ended with a concrete plan of action to be followed in the youth groups - the study of the YOUCAT. Fr Bernardino de Almeida briefly introduced this wealth for young people quoting the words of Pope Benedict XVI: ''So I invite you, study this Catechism! This is my heartfelt desire.''
