The Shepherd came with his Sheep to meet the Shepherd of the Young By Ralin DeSouzaPanjim, Aug. 18. The evening of the first day of Don Bosco's arrival at Oros manifested something even more
spectacular. Hundreds of people, Christians as well as those of other faiths, attended the
Eucharistic Adoration. ''Let us thank God for the gift of Don Bosco to the Church and to
society!''exclaimed Fr. Lino Lopes, who conducted the adoration service which lasted more
than two hours. Impressive, it may sound, but the entire crowd remained to the end, even
people of other faiths. It was clearly evident, looking at the huge crowd that Don Bosco was
able to draw people towards Christ. Through moments of praise, worship, adoration and
prayer, the congregation thanked God for the gift of Don Bosco, the patron of the young.
When approached by the media students of Don Bosco College, Panjim who are covering
the event, Ashwina, a catholic youngster who participated in the holy hour said, ''I could feel
blessings coming down on us, as we prayed through the intercession of Don Bosco to our
Blessed Lord!'' I was reminded of Don Bosco's promise, ''My dear boys love Jesus in the
Blessed Sacrament and you shall be truly happy!'' Those who came to see Don Bosco went
home truly happy having experienced the Lord. Mr. Bhandar and Mr. J.P. Kokani, Police
personnel on duty, who were present since morning commented, ''Those who come with
faith, receive blessings, irrespective of the religion they belong to.'' They humbly confessed
that they were impressed with the serene atmosphere in which the evening was conducted.
The Salesian influence in the diocese of Sindhudhurg was clearly visible with the events of
the first day of the arrival of Don Bosco's relic to the Konkan province. The grand reception
given to the relic by Bp. Allwyn Barreto, the Shepherd of the diocese was something very
spectacular. People from almost all the parishes of the diocese, near and far, had come to
venerate Don Bosco and seek his blessings. It could be well summed up that, ''The shepherd
came with his sheep to meet the shepherd of the young!''
