''Here I Am Lord, The Life and Mission of Jos Vaz'' is a short biography of Bl. Joseph Vaz publised by Salesian Father Banzelao Teixeira a few days prior to the canonization of the Indian Saint who was a missionary in Sri Lanka. The canonization is to take place on 14 January 2015 in Colombo, during the first visit of Pope Francis to that country. Bl. Joseph Vaz, born in Benaulim, Goa is also the patron of the Salesian Province of Panjim.. Read More

. Jorhat: The annual cultural tourism extravaganza, Ethnique, in Jorhat, Assam, came to a grand finale on 4 January, with the heart thumbing dance show by Rhythm of Dance, led by Mr. Bapi Saikia of Baghchung. Prior to the dance show was a fashion parade in both ethnic and modern outfits by the students of The Ramp Modeling Institute, put together by Mr. Pranjit Chetia. Miss Tridisha Baruah , Jorhat's own child and one of the busiest models in the entire India, walked the ramp together with Daniel Brunen of Germany for the two-rounds fashion parade. Anchoring the parade was Miss Mausuma Farheen, a JB College student.

Salesian Archbishop Charles Bo nominated Cardinal |

Among the twenty names of future Cardinals announced by Pope Francis this afternoon, 4 January, in Vatican at the Angelus, is also Salesian Archbishop Charles Maung Bo of Yangon, Myanmar. This is a great news for the five hundred year old Catholic Church in Myanmar, and for the Salesians as well, who have been playing a prominent role in the Catholic presence in that country. Incidentally the future Cardinal, prior to becoming a bishop was also the head of the Burmese Salesians when they were a part of the Salesian Kolkata Province in the early 80's. The pope will raise him to the dignity of the Cardinalate on February 14 at the annual consistory. He will be the first Myanmarese Cardinal.

Bosco Peace Rally creates ripples in Thanjavur |

Some 4000 Scouts, Guides, Scout Masters, Guides Captains, and others associated with Boscoree hailing from 20 states and 2 union territories of India, held a Peace Rally on 2 January from Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School Thanjavur to the Cathedral Church. The Thanjavur District Superintendent of Police Mr. Dharmaraj IPS inaugurated the peace rally, which commenced at 3.30 PM. The Peace Rally apparently created ripples in the Thanjavur town, with the show of colour and strength of purpose.

Boscoree, the all India Don Bosco Scouts and Guides gathering this year has broken the Guinness World Record and set a new record at the Assist World Records and the Record Raisers, by having ''The Most number of People Wearing Paper Hats'' simultaneously, on 3 January, 2015 at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Thanjavur. Previously the same record was achieved an year ago with 3,045 scouts in Manfeild Park, New Zealand, on 1 January 2014.
