Skill Development Institute inaugurated in collaboration with German Childaid Network

In an effort to impart employability skills among the unemployed youth and school dropouts, a Skill Development Institute - Bosco Skill Training Institute (BSTI) - was blessed and launched at Barpeta Road, Guwahati on Monday 16 March. Fr. VM Thomas, the provincial inaugurated the building in the presence of Dr. Martin Kasper, the President of Childaid Network, Germany , and Assam government dignitaries, guests from Germany and England, the Rector of Don Bosco Barpeta Fr. Marcus Lakra, and a large gathering of priests, nuns, students and their guardians. The launching of the programme was synchronized with the commencement of the new batch of training in skill development under the Government of Assam project.. Read More

22 Salesians ordained deacons in Bangalore

Twenty two Salesians were ordained deacons by Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore at St. Antony's Church at TC Palya, near Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore on 19 March. The deacons hail from 8 Salesian Provinces of India. Presently, they are pursuing their theological studies at Kristu Jyoti College. There were in fact 38 of them ordained all together, of whom 8 were Piarists, 3 Sacred Hearts, (MSSCC) 4 Franciscans (OFM), and 1 Fransiscan Friar (TOR).. Read More

14 Salesians ordained Deacons in Chennai

In a solemn two-hour-long ceremony, 14 Salesian students of theology from Becchi Don Bosco, Kavarapettai, were ordained deacons by Archbishop George Antonysamy D.D. of Madras-Mylapore, on 18 March at Don Bosco Shrine, Ayanavaram, Chennai, in the presence of a large gathering of people, which included the parents and dear ones of the ordained. Of the 14 new deacons 5 belong to the Province of Chennai, 6 to Tiruchy, 2 to Hyderabad and 1 to the Province of the Middle East.. Read More

(ANS - Lahore) - The heroic guard who last Sunday in Lahore prevented a suicide attacker from the Jamaat ul Ahrar group from entering a crowded St John's Catholic Church was named Akash Bashir. Akash was a past pupil of the Salesian technical school located in the predominantly Christian neighbourhood of Yuhannabad. He caught hold of his assailant, using his body as a shield. Akash lost his life and saved the lives of many other people.. Read More

Participatory Action Research Project to empower children at risk

Participants of the Participatory Action Research (PAR) project from the southern Salesian Provinces of India had a three day training programme at Don Bosco Navajeevan, Hyderabad, 16-18 March, 2015. The PAR method seeks to empower the child and make the child an important stake holder in all matters concerning its growth and welfare. The whole project is carried forward under the auspices of Don Bosco National Young at Risk (YaR) Forum. Besides the animating team of Prof. D. Manti and Fr T.D. John, and the three project coordinators, there were 35 participants in the programme. . Read More

And measures to accomplish it are ongoing at every Don Bosco Institution in India and abroad. At Don Bosco Kurla, an International Conference ''Technologies for Sustainable Development'' on a significantly large scale was held from 4-6 February, 2015 befitting the 50th Anniversary of the Campus at Kurla and also the Bicentenary of the birth of its founder Don Bosco. The Conference resulted in the setting up of a research Centre for Social Development on the campus.. Read More

Over 300 get jobs at DB Bicentenary Job Fair in Chennai

A whopping 324 young men and women received on-the-spot job offer letters while 400 others were shortlisted by 35 reputed companies on 14 March 2015 at the Don Bosco Job Fair and Technical Expo held in the campus of SIGA Polytechnic and the adjoining DB College of Art and Design (DBCAD) in Chennai. The day-long event was organized by DB Vazhikatti, the Career Guidance and Job Placement Cell of the Salesian Province of Chennai, with the collaboration of the Technical Sector of the Provincial Youth Pastoral team. It was one of the many events organized in the province to mark the Bicentenary celebrations of Don Bosco's birth (1815-2015).. Read More
