The Don Bosco Bicentennial celebrations got off to a colourful start at Tripura's premier Salesian Institution - St. Xavier's Higher Secondary School, Pathaliaghat at an impressive function held on Teachers' Day, attended by over 1300 students, teachers and a host of dignitaries. 45 past pupils of Don Bosco Navajeevan (DBNJ) gathered at Don Bosco Rehabilitation, Ramanthapur (Hyderabad) premises for a day long get-together and sharing on 31 August 2014. Gracing the occasion were Fr Noel Maddhichetty SDB, SPCSA Secretary and Salesian Family National Coordinator, and Mr Ramesh Bojja, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Alumni President. 24 Mising tribal youth take solemn pledge of community service

In a ritual that verbatim resembled a religious profession, or the initiation ceremony in an Assam's Satra, 24 young people committed themselves today to serve their community. These young people, called Takars, have undergone training in discipline, community service and spirituality for two years. Of these 13 belonged to the 12th batch of Karsang Takar, the school dropouts training centre of Institution for Culture And Rural Development (I-CARD). Since the ritual was not performed after a lapse of five years, another 11 young volunteers, belonging to earlier batches too joined the commitment group. . Read More

Don Bosco School Agartala commenced Free Coaching for Students attending Vernacular schools on 1st Sept 2014. The new activity, launched as yet another Bicentenary initiative will ensure that the imposing portals of Don Bosco School Agartala would remain open to students hailing from economically weak backgrounds. Over 150 Class X students from Bengali medium schools attended the first day of class, scheduled from 4.30 PM to 7 PM, Monday to Friday.. Read More

Annual Province Secretaries Meeting held in Tiruchy

Province Secretaries from 10 Salesian Provinces of the South Asia Region gathered for their Annual Meeting in Don Bosco Provincial House, Tiruchy on 22 August 2014. The meeting was held for two days on 22 and 23 August 2014. Fr. Noel Maddhichetty SDB, the SPCSA secretary coordinated the meeting. Fr. Maria Lawrence, the Secretary to the Regional and Fr. Cleophas Braganza SDB, the Web Master of BIS participated in the meeting. The animations and discussions were geared towards creating crisis management system in the provinces and updating and revamping the secretarial system in the Provinces.. Read More

Indus Valley civilization and many other such marvels of the ancient and modern world came alive at Don Bosco School Silchar on 29th and 30th August 2014. The Science and Social Science Exhibition held at the school those days was ample proof of the students' extraordinary ability to combine scientific temper with the spirit of innovation. SYM (Salesian Youth Movement)- Don Bosco Youth Services organized a rural life exposure camp cum outreach trip to Walvanda, Jawahar Tehsil, Thane district for a group of youngsters from August 29-31, 2014. The aim of the camp was to experience the life of the Warli tribes living in Walvanda, acquire knowledge by interacting with them, and to have an adventurous trip at the same time. . Read More

As part of its annual progamme, but with the added fervour of the bicentenary celebrations of the birth of Don Bosco, the Salesian community of Don Bosco Philosophate, Karunapuram organised a Youth Fest on August 31, 2014. There were 143 young participants from the neighbouring 11 Parishes who were treated to a rich animation programme on the theme 'Youth for Change', by Fr Benny Joseph sdb, the assistant Youth Director of the Salesian Province of Hyderabad. The programme commenced at 10.45 in the morning and concluded with the Holy Mass at 5 pm. . Read More
