Pope Francis appointed former Provincial of Kolkata province Father Nirmol Gomes as the new Bishop of Krishnagar. He is seventh Salesian Bishop of the diocese established in 1886, and 12th Salesian College Sonada alumnus made Bishop.   Born on 8th February 1959 in Ranaghat, in the diocese of Krishnagar Fr Gomes entered Salesian aspirantate at Bandel, and completed his novitiate at Sunnyside, Shillong on 24th May 1979.   After his philosophy studies in Sonada, Darjeeling, he pursued his theological studies at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome, where he was awarded a doctorate in the science of education.    Fr. Salesian Province of St Joseph loses yet another stalwart and a pioneer who toiled relentlessly in the Lord's vineyard. Father Thattil Chacko, sdb, aged 81 died while being treated at Vijay Marie Hospital on 19 April 2022. He suffered from severe Parkinson’s disease for almost 20 years. He was active and effective in his ministry serving the people entrusted to his care to the best of his ability.
