New Delhi, Feb. 22. The Salesian Province of Jesus the Good Shepherd, New Delhi, celebrated the Silver Jubilee of its Foundation (1997-2022) on February 19, 2022. A thanksgiving Holy Eucharist presided over by His Excellency, Leopoldo Girelli, the Apostolic Nuncio to India, celebrated the story of dreams, struggles and indomitable spirit of the Province in the past twenty-five years.
The Apostolic Nuncio asked the Salesians to be faithful to Don Bosco. ''Have a passionate love for the young, for the Church and for the mission where the gospel is needed.'' His Excellency was delighted to recall his experience as a young priest in Bergamo, Italy, serving the youth through oratories - a house for prayer, religious instruction and recreation, an approach of Don Bosco in Northern Italy. ''The oratory is a space as well as a method'', he concluded. During the felicitation programme, the former provincials, Father Mathai Velappallil (Delegate), Father Joseph Kezhakkekara, Father Charles Lobo, Father Michael Peedikayil and Father Jose Mathew recalled with gratitude their experiences of leading the Province. Shawls and mementoes were presented to them by Father Davis Maniparamben, Provincial. A pre-recorded message of the Rector Major, Rev. Father Angel Fernandez Artime, read, ''live a deeper fascination for the Lord Jesus and be always among the young people, especially among the poorest ones.'' Father Biju Michael, the Regional Superior, said, ''Blast the trumpet of gratitude for the 25 years of blessings and remain ever firm in the love of Don Bosco and the mission.'' The Provincial Father Davis said, ''the journey we have made and the miles we have covered with the Lord and with the young, will continue onward together as faithful sons of Don Bosco and Mother Mary Help of Christians by our side.'' He reminded the need to remain ever vibrant, opening up new frontiers for educating, evangelizing and empowering with a Salesian predilection for poor young people.
