Kolkata, Nov. 10. Trinity Saioo of Jaintia Hills Meghalaya was conferred India's fourth-highest civilian honour, Padma Shri, by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, at a glittering function in New Delhi on November 9, 2021. The award comes her way for promoting the best variety of the Indian spice - the 'Lakadong Chyrmit' turmeric.
Trinity, popularly known as 'Turmeric Trinity', is a Salesian Cooperator and school teacher from a small village of Mulieh of Mawkyndeng parish in Jowai Diocese of Meghalaya in northeast India. 52-year-old Trinity is a mother of six children. It took Trinity 18 years to make the turmeric revolution a sensation. It has inspired the Government of Meghalaya state to launch Mission Lakadong in 2018, envisioning a production target of 50,000 metric tonnes of turmeric per year by 2023.
