104-bed Facility at Don Bosco School Egmore for COVID Care

Chennai, May. 20. The DB Egmore GCC COVID Care Centre is a joint initiative of Don Bosco School Egmore, DB Past Pupil doctors, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), DBPPA Egmore, and various past pupil batches of DB Egmore. With collaboration from various sectors, the team set up a 104-bed (with oxygen concentrators) COVID Care Centre at Don Bosco School, Egmore, to supplement the ever-increasing demand for oxygen beds in the city.
The Government of Tamil Nadu had encouraged institutions to come forward to partner with the Greater Chennai Corporation to deal with the alarming COVID spread. The need is great, and hospitals are overwhelmed. And DB Egmore responded to cater to the needs of the people of Chennai.

The inspection and inauguration of the Centre were done on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 10.00 a.m. by Honourable HR & CE Minister, Govt of Tamil Nadu Mr PK Sekar Babu, Honourable Member of Parliament from the Chennai Central constituency Mr Dayanidhi Maran, DMK MLA from the Egmore constituency Mr I Paranthamen, Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation Mr Gagandeep Singh Bedi, IAS and Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan, IAS.

During a press conference, the Rector and Correspondent DB Egmore Father Xavier Packia, SDB, briefed the gathering about the collaborative effort between DB Egmore, GCC and the past pupils in setting up the COVID Care Centre. The Honourable HR & CE Minister, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Mr PK Sekar Babu, gave an overview of the COVID situation in the city and how the DB Egmore COVID Care Centre is a model and a landmark initiative of collaboration between the various stakeholders.

Provincial Father Jose Kochamkunnel, SDB, Vice Provincial Father Don Bosco Lourdusamy, SDB, Rector & Correspondent DB Egmore Father Xavier Packia, SDB, Principal DB Egmore Father Gerald Miranda, SDB, Dr Subash Rau (DB Egmore 1988 Batch), Chief Medical Officer, DB Egmore COVID Care Centre, Sujit Tharakan, President, DBPPA Egmore and Mohammed Shadaan, Secretary, DBPPA Egmore were present.
