St. Bede's Volleyball Team makes history

St. Bede`s Volleyball Team which has been selected to represent Chennai District League team, with their coach, Mr. Edwin Fernando

Chennai, Jan. 22. The Volleyball team of St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Chennai, has made history by winning 32 titles during the last academic year 2019 - 2020. They continue their winning streaks this academic year too, as tournaments are on the go, after lockdowns and unlocks. They were the winners in the YMCA State-Level Volley Tournament held at Kilpauk, Chennai. 15 team players have been selected to represent the Chennai district league team.

The YMCA State-Level Volleyball Tournament was held at YMCA, Kilpauk in October 2020. St. Bede's emerged as Winners outplaying 10 other teams from the city, including Don Bosco - Perambur, St. Peter's - Royapuram and MCTM - Purasaivakkam. Fr. Stephen Joseph SDB, the Headmaster, appreciated the Physical Education Department of the school, in a special way, Mr. Edwin Fernando, the PE teacher of the school and the Team Coach, Mr. Edin Prabhu - the Manager and Mr. Prem Kumar - the Assistant Coach for their tireless efforts in training the players. He congratulated the team players for their dedication, commitment and hardwork.

Earlier, the team has been successful in the tournaments conducted in the previous academic year by reputed schools and colleges all over Tamilnadu. A few of them are:
1. Bertram Tournament - Loyola College, Chennai
2. Peri Champion League - Peri Engineering College, Chennai
3. Kongu Trophy - Kongu Engineering College, Coimbatore
4. Sports University Trophy - Tamilnadu Sports University, Kancheepuram
5. Adhi Trophy - Adhi Engineering College, Chennai
6. Hindusthan Trophy - Hindusthan Institute of Engineering and Technology, Kancheepuram
7. Sairam Trophy - Sairam Engineering College, Thiruvallur
8. Wesley Trophy - Nazareth College of Arts and Science, Chennai
9. Seth Trophy - PD Hinduja College, Chennai
10. RS Javer Olympics Trophy - Tablets India Limited, Chennai
With all winning histories, the team marches on with their daily practices for the upcoming matches.

As a latest achievement of the team, 15 players have been selected to represent the Chennai district league team for the forthcoming matches from February 2021. Fr. Stephen Joseph SDB, the Headmaster, congratulated the students and their coaches for this achievement. Benson, a team player felt elated about the selection and thanked the Headmaster and PE teachers for their support and guidance. He said: ''We have made our school and our parents proud. Thanks to all our coaches and our Headmaster for grooming us to this height.''
