Kolkata, Dec. 26.  Ooodlbari, 26 December 2020: Deacon Deonis Minj became the fourth priest to be ordained in the Blessed Michael Rua tea garden parish of Oodlabari, in Jalpaiguri diocese, on 27 December 2020.
In a solemn Eucharistic celebration held at Don Bosco School Ooodlabari on 26 December 2020, Bishop Vincent Aind of Bagdogra diocese ordained Minj in the presence of about 40 priests and over 2,500 faithful from 13 substations of the parish.

The first priestly ordination in the parish established in 2007 was of a TOR priest followed by Salesian Fr Angelus Minj, a priest for Jalpaiguri diocese and now another Salesian.

The celebrations started on time at 10.30 am under Master of Ceremonies Fr Albert Ekka and choir master and parish priest Fr Alexander Topno.

As the congregation sang the entrance hymn a group some 40 girls ushered the bishop into the gigantic widely spread tent. They were followed by another three sets of dancers (72 girls) escorted priests to the altar from three entry points in the elegantly decorated semi-circular tent, reminiscent of circus days.

After Rector of Ooodlabari Father Sanjay Manohar Kujur welcomed the Bishop, visiting priests and faithful, Salesian provincial Father Joseph Pauria presented the candidate for the priestly ordination.

The ordaining Bishop reminding the deacon of his priestly duty said, ''your priestly life has to be one of service and representation of Jesus among the people.''

The Bishop also exhorted the faithful, to encourage and support, the one chosen from among them to be a priest and shepherd of the people.

The son of late Theophil Minj and Veronica Minj of Washabari Tea Estate, Deonis was born on 16 January 1990. After completing his primary education in the Tea Garden school Deonis studied at St Bartholomew High School at Mal Bazar and joined Salesian seminary at Don Bosco Bandel. END
