Sad Demise of Father Puthuva Joffie SDB

By Valarkote Mathew
Bangalore, Aug. 3. With profound grief, we, the Salesians of the Province of Bangalore, announce the sudden passing away of Father Puthuva Joffie, sdb (50) at 7.30 p.m. today (3rd August 2016), at Caritas Hospital, Thellakam, Kerala.
The Funeral will be at 2.00 p.m., on Friday, 5th August, at Don Bosco Bhavan, Mannuthy.

We are deeply saddened and shocked at the unexpected and sudden death of Fr. Joffie Puthuva, our dear confrere. This afternoon he had taken an apostolic school boy from Don Bosco, Sachivothamapuram (Kerala) to the hospital by motorbike. Apparently, while returning to the House a lorry loaded with sand tried to overtake him. In the process this lorry collided with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction.  With its impact the sand splashed on  Fr. Joffie and the pillion rider and he naturally lost control of the bike and hit somewhere and fell. But the boy fortunately escaped with minor injuries. The incident took place near  Thuruthy (Changanacherry) at around 3 pm. He was then rushed to the Chethipuzha hospital by the people who had at the accident site. Meanwhile the confreres got the news and when they reached the hospital his condition was found to be very critical and so they took him to Caritas Hospital. There he succumbed to his injuries.  This is what we can figure out more or less of the nature of the accident as of now. We miss him much. May his soul rest in peace!
