Don Bosco Alumni and present Political Bigwigs add glitter to Youth Expo

Mumbai, Oct. 1. The Youth Expo 2015 hosted at Don Bosco School Alaknanda, New Delhi from 28-30 September to conclude the birth bicentenary of Don Bosco had a grand finale on September 30. A glittering array of eminent alumni [ae] paid homage to the priest-educator Don Bosco amidst 1300 youngsters from across the country.
Smt. Smrit Zubin Irani, an alumnus of Holy Child Auxillium-Vasant Vihar currently Cabinet Minister for Human Resource Development, was the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Shri Piyush Goyal, an alumnus of Don Bosco Matunga-Mumbai currently Minister of State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy, and His Excellency Most Rev. Salvatore Pennacchio, Apostolic Nuncio to India.
Starting with a prayer song by the Don Bosco School students, Fr Jose Mathew, Salesian Provincial of New Delhi and Convenor of the Youth Expo welcomed the participants and the dignitaries. The students of Don Bosco Maram, Manipur performed 'Laotai Laodi Lam' a harvest dance depicting the cultivation of rice that is the culture of the Rongmei Nagas.
Shri Piyush Goyal spoke of his memories & flashbacks 'My Don Bosco', Shrimati Smriti Irani, the Chief Guest reminisced her school days.
The students of DBTI Okhla performed a fusion dance 'Chak de India' highlighting the DBTech network & collaboration with the Government of India. Felicitations of the dignitaries followed soon after. '200 years of Don Bosco - A South Asian legacy was then screened which preceeded a peppy bhangra performance by the Youth-at-Risk [YaR] expressing gratitude for the services rendered by Don Bosco, enlivened the cultural fiesta
Fr Angel Fernandez Artime, the Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco delivered the presidential address. Fr Artime also released a book ''Empowering Education in Today's India'' penned by a team of Salesians from across India and published by the DBYA [Don Bosco Youth Animation] guided by Fr Maria Charles, Programme Coordinator of the Youth Expo. Thereafter His Excellency Most Rev. Salvatore Pennacchio, Apostolic Nuncio to India delivered a message
Fr Maria Charles the Don Bosco Youth Animation Delegate for South Asia proposed the vote of thanks followed by a homage hymn to Don Bosco by the choir of Don Bosco Alaknanda.
The Youth Expo dwelt on relevant social issues as experienced by the young, who expressed their creativity through various talent contests. The Grand Finale witnessed more than 1200 delegates from across the country The dynamic Fr Babu Varghese, Principal of Don Bosco School Alaknanda was the chief organizer for this concluding national level event of Don Bosco's birth bicentenary.
